Hi guys,
Does this sound normal?
As the thread title says I have an early 2009 MacBook Pro 17".
About a year ago I decided to bring my old machine back to life. I didn't use it a lot anymore because of the original battery being dead.
So I bought a new (ok, I have to admit relatively cheap) battery. Brand is DY (on the website of the seller it says it's there own private brand).
I also decided to upgrade the RAM, install an SSD and install Monterey via OCLP.
As these changes all have been done on the same moment I'm trying to determine the cause.
The battery seems the most likely because that's what's faling off course, but could there be another thing causing this?
When the seller had to replace the 2nd battery (very reluctantly and tried to ignore my mails) he said that the failure could've been caused by other things. One of them - off course- old age of the system
, dust, dirt, ...
The little dust that had accumulated over the years was removed when replacing the first battery so for me it sounded like they were trying to dodge another replacement.
In case it helps: with the 1st battery the capacity dropped to 74% after only 10 cycles. The 2nd battery stopped charging after a month or 2 and now the 3rd one also seems to lose capacity fast (service recommended already showing).
I don't use this machine for anything extreme. I don't even watch a lot of movies or anything very hard on the GPU for example.
Maybe I didn't charge it enough times? As I have a day to day computer from work it can take over a week before I use it again.
Could this be a problem?
Or should I just get a proper battery?
Thanks!
Frederik
