Hi, I´m planning to upgrade my MBP with a Vertex III SSD for the system additional to my HDD for files.. Can anybody tell me, if my MBP can gain the speed the Vertex III - SATA600? Should I mount the SSD into the optibay or the HDD?

Thx for your advice, mike

If you have a 15" or 17" MBP reporting 6Gbps connection speed in the optical bay then the Vertex 3 will not function at all in the optibay so put the HDD there instead. You'll get nothing but errors and beachballs otherwise. I know because I tried it. The problem continues through to the latest (late 2011) model. 13" MBP is fine though.

I have a 13" MBP.. But is it possible, to max out the speed of a SATA600 SSD? If yes: Only in place of the HDD or also with the optibay?
Otherwise I will take a Vertex II or something else.
Thx again!

The 13" will max out the SATA III SSD in either bay, assuming your optical bay is reporting 6Gbps connection speed.
