Hi all, I have a MBP 8.2, running Lion. For the past two weeks or so it WILL NOT sleep what-so-ever. My troubleshooting:

-SMC reset
-PRAM reset
-Restart

Here's what happens:

When I close the screen all the way, or press "Sleep" on the menu: It never sleeps; just continues to run constantly.

If I put the screen an inch from away from closing the lid: the DISPLAY goes off, the power light goes off, but the computer keeps running.

When I put the lid back up: the screen flashes for a moment, then it goes black and the computer continues to run, and the power light is on, but I can't get the screen to turn back on.

THEN, if I close the lid all the way: the screen goes ON.

If I open the screen back up: the screen goes off.

This cycle continues for ever, and the only way to fix it is to hard boot.

Any ideas? Really need to get this resolved/fixed.

Sing "Soft Kitty" to it three times!

Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty, little ball of fur...
Happy Kitty, Sleepy Kitty, purr, purr, purr...

Also, try entering this into Terminal:

syslog |grep "Wake reason"

and check the second link in my GGJ's quoted post for what the output means.

(I'm assuming you're running Lion)

when I run
Code:
syslog |grep "Wake reason"
it locks up, then never gives me any info.

Alright, so I finally got it to work, and it just produced this:
Code:
Jan 14 11:18:44 Gods-MacBook-Pro kernel[0] <Debug>: Wake reason: EC.LidOpen EHC2 (User)
Jan 14 21:30:43 Gods-MacBook-Pro kernel[0] <Debug>: Wake reason: EC.LidOpen (User)
Jan 18 08:33:27 Gods-MacBook-Pro kernel[0] <Debug>: Wake reason: EC.LidOpen (User)
Jan 18 08:33:43 Gods-MacBook-Pro kernel[0] <Debug>: Wake reason: EC.LidOpen (User)

I never replied to this because it fixed itself, but now it's happening again. I can try a reinstall again. Generally in the past that has never helped. So annoying.

Sometimes it takes a while for your computer to go to sleep.
Once it took me 2 minutes. Most of the time it takes 2 seconds.

And by the way, "God's MacBook Pro" just made me laugh...
