Hey guys, I'm attempting to fix my buddies MBP for him. I've done a lot of googling/browsing the forums and have found an overwhelming amount of information for this problem.

He is experiencing the "won't fully boot up" issue where it hangs on the bluish/gray screen after the apple logo.

I've tried resetting NVRAM using the startup-key-combo and also the SCM by pulling out the battery and power cord, but no luck. I am able to start in safe mode, however.

I'm going to try and do some more research, but to be honest his number one priority isn't getting his MBP back (he wants to get a new one anyways) but rather, he wants to retain all of his applications, music, videos, etc.

Any hints on what to do or links to this specific situation would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. He was not able to give me any of the original discs for his computer so I do not have access to the startup discs.
