MacBook Pro (A1226) Stuck at grey logo screen

Hello,

I got a MBP (A1226) that was laid down for a good while.
The main battery is 'dead' so I borrowed an adapter to try starting it up.
On startup it gave the sound and then stuck at the grey logo screen.
I've have tried quite a few things include resetting NVRAM/PRAM but nothing happens. Also a dvd is stuck in the drive.
Any suggestions or assistance in helping me solve these problems would be greatly appreciated.
