Recently, I have noticed my Macbook Pro is struggling - now this machine has been with me through a lot over the last year I have had it (it was a refurbished 2ghz core duo), so I've got some strong feelings of worry and sadness. :(

My harddrive is parking, almost constantly when there's any disc activity (writing, reading, or idle) however, there's a massive 3/4 second pause just before it does, then 'poing' the drive parks, pinwheel, and then everything works normally - until about 2 minutes later when it does it again.

Sometimes, there is a 30/40 second delay on the initial startup chime, I'm left with a black screen and a dim sleep light. This I have concluded is down to the drive too.

My drive is the Seagate ST910021AS 7200RPM 100GB drive. SMART Status is OK, Disk verifies as OK in Disk Utility - yet these pauses are driving me mad, does anyone have any idea how I can fix this, or is my drive a time bomb?
