Hey guys,

I am looking into a display to run with my MBP. I am tired of staring at the smaller laptop screen for hours on end when I am doing my coding and different school work. I would love to get the new led apple display but they are just to expensive for a broke college kid. I have seen on ebay the lcd displays are going for a much more reasonable price. my question is, is it compatible with my mbp mid 2010 model. i want to be able to close the lid on my mbp and work solely on my display i don't know if i can do that with the lcd model. any help would be great thanks guys

ok because the lcd displays are using the dvi port and the mid 2010 mbp has a mini display adapter?

Looking at those links, normally displays have VGA or DVI, nowadays even HDMI as input, and your MacBook Pro has a "MiniDisplayPort", thus you need the appropriate adapter.

I have an adapter to go to from dvi to mini display. what connector does the old lcd monitor have dvi or mini display? I was just wondering if the old apple lcd monitor was compatible with mine (backwards compatible i guess). i guess i can use anything with a dvi or mini display port on my mbp. i just can't go any newer than the mini display i.e the new thunderbolt is not compatible.

The Apple Cinema Display uses DVI, the Apple LED Cinema Display uses MiniDisplayPort.
