MacBook Pro and AppleTV weirdness

My MBP won't "see" my AppleTV until I turn on Bluetooth. Once it "sees" it I can turn off Bluetooth and all is still OK until I put the laptop back to sleep. My MBP is a late 2011 one so it is supported. It is on the same wireless network. Just so odd. We have an iMac in the house that is not having this issue. And all iDevices "see" the AppleTV just fine.
