Hi Forum

I am a brand new user to the world of Apple and also a brand new member on MacRumors.

Just a quick (possibly stupid) question. I have an external keyboard and mouse for my MacBook Pro. Is it safe to plug in and unplug these devices while the notebook is on and running? Or should I switch it off beforehand.

I realise for my external hard drive that I eject it before unplugging, but not sure whether a similar rule applies to keyboards and mice?

Thank you for your time in advance.

Kind regards

Tim

I do the same everyday and there is no problem about that :D

Given that your MBP has bluetooth maybe it's a little bit more comfortable to have a mouse/keyb with BT.

Yes, keyboards and mice have been hot-pluggable on all computers built since the mid-1990s. The same goes for all other USB and FireWire devices, although storage devices like hard drives do indeed need to be ejected to avoid interrupting any data transfers that might be taking place.
