Macbook Pro and mac mini

Had a macbook pro for a while for work and that just purchased a mac mini for bedroom, couple of things how and can i access my mini macs with my macbook pro when not at home?

You need to turn on sharing in the system preferences application so each computer can access each other.

Then you will probably need a remote desktop client or VPN. I don't have either so perhaps someone else can share an opinion.
