MacBook Pro App for importing images

I find Iphoto very slow at times importing images from a CD-RW. Is there an app that can do this better than Iphoto. Thankyou for any help.
 
I guess iPhoto may "pre-scan" the files before copying them. Try copying them to your hard drive first, then import to iPhoto from there.
