MacBook Pro: Apple ID won't log out

2015 MacBook Pro
OS Big Sur
I go to System preferences, then Apple ID and try to Sign Out
Computer just sits there with the pending/spinning icon.

Trying to wipe it and I don't want any of my info/contacts/texts remaining before it's passed on.

Suggestions?

UPDATE
Updated OS. Worked fine. Couldn't find way to erase thread.
