Macbook Pro (as 2nd monitor) won't wake up?

I am using my macbook pro as my additional monitor and I have a HP 24in as my main display. When my mac goes to sleep, my HP display wakes up but the macbook display doesn't. In order to wake it up I have to close the macbook, wait for it to sleep again, then wake it back up...

Is there an easier way to wake it up? Or even to prevent this from happening?
