MacBook Pro audio breaking?

Recently I noticed when any sound is being played either through the headphone jack or internal speakers, I get random "static" sounds or other sound that almost sound like electrical arcing. This only happens when playing audio. Its very sharp and annoying sounding and im concerned theres a problem with either the audio system itself or theres another electrical problem that the sound system is picking up.
