I was hoping to get some opinions on the question - Macbook Air vs Macbook Pro. Both base models, both at a solid discount (through Costco).
Full disclosure: I purchased the Macbook Air in December and it has been a solid machine for my VERY BASIC needs. (Browsing the web, listening to music, some YouTube and light MS Office use.)
I only worry about the 128GB of SSD space down the road, as well as the dual core processor, that, I will admit, does seem to chug along if I open too many Chrome tabs.
If you had the opportunity to return the Air and get the Pro with 256GB SSD, would you pay the additional $450 for: better processor, slightly better screen, touch bar, double the SSD space, better speakers. Or, is paying 50% more on top of what I paid for the Air a bit...foolish?

I initially had an Air, with 256gb and 8gb memory. I found it was not adequate for my usage. So, I sold it to a friend and upgraded to a base MacBook Pro 13, 512gb with 8gb memory. It is more than adequate for my usage. I mainly run Office and a Parallels Windows 10 VM. Also web browsing and a bit of media consumption.

I like the Touch Bar, and I also like the better speakers, but really, the processor and storage space were the real difference.

For me, the upgrade was worth it.

I almost always buy the base config as it's the best bang for the buck and the best for losing the least on resale. However, I never buy 128gb SSDs. By the time the OS is loaded and some programs, you're down to 80gb, and that's just nuts. If my current machine were a 128gb machine I'd be out of space already with just my usual programs, a few pictures, and my (rather large, admittedly) music library.

I have always found it good advice to buy twice the hard drive space as I think I will need over the coming years.

So, that's the only reason I'm saying you should return it and get the Pro. The Pro does have a brighter screen too with slightly better colors. So there's that too.

The other thing I notice about the air is it isn't quite as stable in my lap as the more squarish Pro. That's rather subjective though.
