Hi,
I found another post about this problem and one of the solutions worked (plugging in an external monitor with the lid shut), but it happens every time I turn on the computer. I assume it's just confused and thinks it's plugged into a monitor, but I can't find a way of stopping it, which makes it useless as a laptop - if anyone can suggest a simple solution I'd be very grateful (if I'm wrong and it's a serious problem it's still covered by the protection plan so I could get it fixed/replaced)!
Thanks in advance!
Emily

Have you tried re-setting the SMC?

step by step:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

If that fails to fix things, then take it back for repair.

Thank you for the quick response. I'll make sure everything's backed up and give that a go - thank you!
