from the time u press the button to when your desktop appears. how long does it take? whats "average?" sorry, noob question, just got my mbp

From pressing the button to everything loaded = 34.7 seconds.

13" P8400 (2.26) with 4GB and 320GB 7200rpm.

EDIT: I just timed it. From shut down, I see the desktop at 30 seconds and everything is loaded by 34.7 seconds. I timed startup with the stock configuration (2GB RAM) and it took about 45 seconds on a clean 160GB 5400rpm HDD.

mine is about 32 sec from pressing the button to when the desktop appears.

i have the new 13" mbp unibody, upgraded to 4gb ram.

I'd say mine is about a minute. Don't really know for sure - usually I turn it on and go get breakfast or go to the bathroom or something.

Although sometimes it takes up to 3 minutes even with 4GB of RAM and a 7200rpm 200GB HD. But on average I'd say about 1 minute.

Speaking of which, since the restart time from sleep is so fast, is there really any negative point to not shutting the system down but going into sleep mode when not in use? Just shutting the lid and opening it reduces either wait time to 2 seconds!

Yes. It draws power while asleep.

Woah. What do you guys have on your laptops?

Mine was around 30 seconds when I first got it a few days ago, but its getting a lot faster now.

As I said before, mine isn't nearly a fast as anyone's here. With 4GB of RAM and a 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo Processor, it takes me 1 to 3 minutes each time.

I do have 37GB of Free Space out of the 185GB I started with.
