I've attached a short video showing the issue I'm experiencing with my laptop. After booting, I do not get the boxes to enter my name and password. The screen gets lighter and darker and the touch bar flashes on and off. Cannot boot into any recovery option, either (I tried).

Sorry, I can't tell you the year // operating system because I can't get it to boot! And yes, this "just happened" with no prior warning.

Any suggestions are really appreciated.

What happens if:

1. Safe Boot
Power down, all the way off.
Put finger on shift key and hold down continuously, don't let go.
Press and release power on button.

Any difference?

2. Internet recovery
Power down, all the way off.
Hold down this key combo:
Command-option-R
DO NOT LET GO!
Press and release the power on button.
When asked for wifi password, you can let go of the keys.

Can you get to internet recovery?

@Rusted Eyes Does the Fn key in the bottom left of the keyboard have a Globe symbol on it? If it does, you've got an Apple Silicon machine and troubleshooting tips will be slightly different.

Honestly I have no idea! Ugh.

Lock symbol screen is firmware password on Intel Macs. If Lock symbol screen also asking for Apple Account credentials, then it's Activation Lock.
Hey, I didn’t realize your Touch Bar MBP is a 2020 Intel model—not an M1 or M2! 😂 I get it, though, because I’m all about the latest Apple silicon too, since my first MacBook Pro is a m4!

It looks like someone already has the answer here. If you’re not sure why it’s there, try getting it sorted ✔️ on macOS recovery and follow these steps: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102384

If you bought your MacBook Pro used, maybe reach out to the previous owner. Activation lock/ find my Mac may be on
