I upgraded from an aluminum Powerbook to a Macbook Pro several months ago. It seems to me that the build quality on the MBP is somewhat below standard.
Although there are no visible problems, every time I pick the laptop up, I hear slight creaking noises, like the casing hasn't been tightly sealed. The hinge between the base and the screen seems a bit weak.
If I angle the laptop while carrying it open, the screen unit slides downwards towards a closing position.
The latch release button is harder to press and doesn't cause the screen to spring open as far as it would on the Powerbook.
Have there been a change in manufacturer for these units? I always thought the Powerbook was a very sturdy laptop. I've raised these issues with Apple customer service, but just get told that moving parts aren't covered by warranty. Is there a way to fix these problems on my own?
