MacBook Pro Compatible with iMac to Dual Screen?

Hi, I have an iMac with the following hardware that I bought in Oct 2009 and Im looking to buy a Mac Book PRO for a better video editing process.

Would anyone know whether my iMac and the MacBook Pro are ok to setup as dual screens?

Basically, I want the combination of the MacBook hardware with the large screen of the iMAC.

I visited my local Apple store to find out and they werent sure! Said that it may work with a firewire.
