I bought a BenQ EW3270U external monitor and when I connect it to my MacBook Pro over USB-C, the charging icon indicates that my MacBook Pro is charging from the monitor. But this monitor doesn't support charging over USB-C! My MacBook Pro runs out of battery power and turns off after few hours. It still doesn't show the low battery warning as it recognises the USB-C connection as a power input source.

However, I'm fine with using this monitor while keeping the power adapter plugged in. But will this cause any problems since it seems this monitor also delivers probably a small amount of power?

That's fine. The MacBook Pro will simply use the more powerful power source, which is your standard charger brick.
