Has anyone else turned on their i7 Macbook Pro and received an error during boot with a folder with a slash through it? When I booted off of my Mac OSX install disk, it looks like the disk Macintosh HD has only 15 GB in it, which is a problem. I didn't make a backup of my stuff yet, and I need to know how to boot normally and retrieve my data, PLEASE!

most likely the hard drive is hosed. sometimes they're just bad... it tends to show early on.

you could try booting into target disk mode (cmd-t at start up chime) and connect it to another mac via ethernet. you may or may not have some luck grabbing your stuff that way.

actually, before doing that... did you try repairing the hard drive while you were booted off the dvd?
