I recently popped in a pair of 120GB Corsair Force 3 drives (not the recalled version) and am experiencing unexpected behavior.

What's odd is that write speeds are rather speedy at around 330MB/s and read speeds are slower at about 280MB/s using the AJA System Test application.

I was expecting a bit more performance in general, but was surprised with the higher write speeds. Anyone with ideas as to why this may be?

The hardware is a Macbook Pro 2.66 i7 with 8GB of RAM (SATA II) and MCE Optibay. The RAID array was set up as a striped array with a 128kb stripe size. A 32kb stripe size has similar results.

Turns out resetting the SMC and PRAM sets the read and write speeds to parity (330MB/s). Still not quite as fast as I had hoped, but fast enough!
