MacBook Pro deleted

I woke up a couple days ago and my MAC was open and on as usual. I went to open a document and I noticed all of them were translucent. They were all gone. I proceeded to restart hoping it was some glitch. Now it won’t get past the grey screen with the apple logo. What can I do to get it back on?

What MBP do you have? Try this, keeping in mind that if your machine is from before June 2013 you need to click on the link for the other test.

It’s from 2009. I clicked on the on the how to use apple diagnostics link and it didn’t work.
