I've been a proud owner of a 17" MacBook Pro for what would be 2 years in April. Recently I've had a slew of problems including a hard drive failure (everything was backed up) and less than two weeks later an LCD failure of sorts. The bottom half of the screen looks as if the contrast ratio is turned all the way up to solar flare and the speed is stuck on molasses. Its not the back light and the mac genius believes it to be hardware based and I agree. The dilemma is do I pay the 750$ to repair the defunct LCD (a rather prominent dent in the bottom left edge of the casing incurred early in the devices life is preventing a free repair under AppleCare) or do I sell the device as is and purchase a new laptop. Its a 2.16ghz 120gb hdd, top of the line at the time of launch.
I'm curious what everyone thinks I should do. I have the money to repair or get a new system. What do you think I could grab selling the book as is? Or should I hold out and see if there is a product refresh in the near future?
