Macbook Pro disable/enable wireless card necessary?

Hi,

I want to use my external network adaptor with my macbook rather than the internal card for wifi. Will I need to turn the internal off somehow to do this or doesn't it matter? (If it does matter letting me know how to do this would be great )

Once both cards are active, change their order in Network Preferences, this changes the priority for network traffic.
