Hello,

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro. My wife accidentally spilled water on to my MacBook Pro, without knowing. So it sat with water for quite some time, possibly 30 minutes to an hour b this was about a month ago, when I dried it off and waited a few days, I attempted to power it on, however to no avail. The back light on the keyboard lit up and the Mac didn't make noises, such as Mail notifications. So it seems the sound card still works. I recently turned the MacBook Pro on again today, one month later and the screen was able to come on, however with no backlight.

I can move the mouse open programs as normal, again just know backlight. I have begun a recent back up time machine just in case the computer does not survive. I am wondering if this is just a screen replacement for something more serious such as a graphics card failure.

Has anyone had experience taking their MacBook Pro to Apple at the Genius Bar for a screen replacement on a similar or exact model? How much did you end up paying? Also if you had a similar issue such as water damage and a video graphics card failure, what options did they give you? I assume there would be none considering the video graphics card is soldered into the motherboard.

I figure I have one or two choices. First choice is not to use Time Machine as a back up, and to back up all of my pictures onto a format that a PC can read. I will probably have to buy a Windows 8 machine, I cannot afford $2200 for quite sometime. So I am making a plan to transfer all of my pictures that I have backed up on my external hard drive to a PC. Should I clear out my external hard drive of the Time Machine format, and use a different format to back up? Any suggestions.

My other option, if my MacBook Pro does survive, is possibly using an external display keyboard and mouse?

I would really appreciate your guys his feedback on this, thank you very much in advance!
