macbook pro doesn't boot up. what could be wrong

I have MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008). I press the power button and the white sleep indicator light turns white for about a second and the macbook shuts off. I tried holding command, option, o, and f and pressing the power button and the indicator light stays on for a few more seconds then blinks and finally shuts off again. Anyone have a similar problem o rknow what could be the problem? appreciate any tips or advice
