Macbook Pro doesn't recognize headphones

So I used MRoogle and couldn't find anything. But I have a 13" MBP and I'm having problems with my headphone jack and it happens with every pair of headphones that I own. When I plug my headphones in my computer continues to use my internal speakers and doesn't recognize they're in. But if I close and open my computer my headphones will start to work and continue to work until they are unplugged. Any help would be appreciated because it's a pain to open and close my computer every time my headphones accidentally slip out.
