Macbook pro doesn't turn on

Trying to help at friend figure out what is wrong with his Early (i think) 2007 macbook pro.

The light comes on and fan starts but the screen stays black and it doesn't make the chime noise.

Any suggestions on what to try? Hoping its not the logic board or something as expensive as that.

Unlikely in this configuration. I've seen it many times, so i'm pretty sure the GPU is the problem.
