I just read this article on Low End Mac:
http://lowendmac.com/fishkin/06/0623.html
and It says the the DVD burners on macs usually only burn at 2x, does anyone know if this is true iwth the macbook pros? specifically the 17", Its not a huge deal for me because I really just care about having the DL so I can put full DVDs on when I need to but it would be nice if it burned a bit faster than 2x

I've never heard of any such problem.
I remember a few years ago, some 4x desktop drives had trouble actually burning successfully at 4x, but they worked fine at 2x.

My PowerBook works fine at 8x with 16x rated LightScribe DVD-R's from HP...
