MacBook Pro Early 2011 Audio HDMI Issues

Hi. I just got a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable to connect my MacBook Pro to my Samsung LN32A450 television but am having some issues.

For some reason the video output works perfectly but I cannot get audio to output through the TV. Even if I select the television as the audio out source it still does not work, and will play through my laptop's speakers.

Here are the cables that I ordered, based on the reviews these should not be the problem:

HDMI need Audio

The HDMI cable you bought does not deliver audio. Make sure when you search you select Audio/Video HDMI cable. Your search results for the Link you posted shows Video only.

You purchased a cheap HDMI cable. A good HDMI Audio/Video cable can run you around $25. I would find one for around $8-$10.

That cable actually does do audio, I think most HDMI cables nowadays do. No matter how cheap.

The problem was that I had VLC open when I switched audio output sources. You have to restart VLC to get VLC to honor the changes. I didn't know that.
