Macbook pro external display flashes

Hey.
I got a macbook pro early 2011 connected to an external display, using a minidisplay to hdmi cable. Every time I wake it up from sleep it takes around 10-20 seconds for the screen to connect. In that time the internal screen flashes between black and lockscreen... Its kinda frustrating and I don't have the same issue with my old MBP... I had the same problem with Mavericks...

Anyone with the same problem?
