Hello everyone,

My MacBook Pro needs the firmware to be reset, as it was locked without permission via iCloud and Apple has said that it is not possible for them to unlock it at their end, as the lock is set in the firmware, so the only way is to reset the firmware.

I'll probably have to take it into an authorized reseller to get the firmware reset, however I don't want to do that if I don't have to, as it costs $$$. So I was wondering if there was a way to reset the firmware myself without taking it in. I know that on desktops there is a button/switch on the motherboard to do this, but it's probably not present in MacBooks.

Remove one stick of RAM and try booting it up. I think I remember reading that a hardware change will unlock the firmware, but I could be wrong.

What year MacBook Pro is it?

If it is a 2011 or 2012 you are out of luck.

If it is older then that then Remove a stick of RAM (Or if you only have 1 add a stick)
Then Reset the PRAM 3 times

It's a late 2009 :). I already tried removing one of the two sticks of RAM, and it didn't work. However I didn't try resetting the PRAM 3 times afterwards. I'll try it later!

Thank you!
