Hey guys , i'm running right now with the intel based macbook pro 2020 model and i feel that he's about to die really soon

And I thought to get the m4 pro with 1tb macbook pro model but i dont know if i should go with 16 inch or 14 inch ,
I have a friend with m1 pro and he said to me , omg im working with lots of stuff in the background and i can barely hear the fans and it works like a charm

im worried about the 14 inch only because the fans noise with some heavy tasks

thanks guys

I've not used the M series MBP. But my 2015 Intel MBP fans are noticably loud when doing a large video export for example.

I imagine the M series fans are as loud coz ... well you're moving air. And what are sound waves but moving air molecules.

My M1 air by contrast is completely silent at all times.

I daily use the 16" M4Pro for coding. I chose the 48GB memory model for LLM testing and ML work. The 14" screen is just too small for my workflow ( and eyes ), but my daughter loves her 14" ( they are bit easier to tote around than the 16" ). If you are bouncing between more storage or more memory I would recommend getting the additional memory over storage as the USB ports can run a LaCIE externals at very close to internal HD speeds ( lacie states 4800 read / 4100 write ).

I think you should base it on how you feel about of the size of the machine and/or your preferred amount of screen real estate. It's doubtful you'll hear enough of a difference in fan noise between 14" and 16" to justify letting that drive your decision.

First off it is a massive upgrade going from Intel to M chips. You will love that for sure.

If you are worried about the 14" I would just get the 16". I have a 14" M1 Max and it is a great computer primarily used at my desk plugged in. Doing it again I would have gone for the 16" purely because the 14" model does not get as great battery life because of the smaller size. Not sure if that carries out to newer models, but 16" is a decent size for a laptop and you are going to have plenty of power. Only time I hear fans on mine is if I do some local AI generation. Other than that the fans never come on and I use Adobe CC all day long.
