Hi all!

I need some advice/help on deciding on a new upgrade for a Macbook Pro.

I'm looking into upgrading my Macbook to the 16 inch Macbook Pro M4. However, with the chips (Pro, Ultra, Max, etc), I can't figure out what chip should be able to handle the stuff that I do, professionally. I do have the M1 Macbook Pro but started noticing some issues with it since I heavily rely on my laptop for creative things. My 16 inch Macbook M1 laptop has the M1 Max chip. I'm pretty knowledgeable with technology and what I need exactly, but just need help in this area. I'm looking at the 512GB 16 inch Macbook Pro M4, 14-Core, 20-Core GPU Pro chip and the 1TB 16 inch Macbook Pro M4, 14-core, 32-Core GPU Max chip

I'm a graphic designer and a professional photographer. I run a lot of Adobe creative cloud programs. I use mainly InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Lightroom Classic. I thought about just upgrading to the M3 instead of the M4 because of the price tag of the new M4. I am planning on trading in my M1 laptop towards the new laptop. Should the Pro chip (not the baseline) laptop be ok to run all of these adobe programs that I need? — I do have these programs open simultaneously sometimes. Or should I just stick with the Max chip and try and try to save up money for that instead?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

All these programs can run simultaneously on an M1 Pro without issues, provided there is enough memory.

1. When you say you started noticing some issues, what were they?
2. Do you have specific tasks which take too long now?
3. Can you check the memory pressure graph in Activity Monitor in the middle of a very busy workflow and report its colour please?
4. How much free space do you have on your SSD right now?

What are the issues you’re having? That’s quite a lot of hardware firepower you’ve got already.
