Hi all

I would like to asking using MacBook Pro for long hours daily like 5 to 10 hours at home.

Because I found if we often shutdown it the battery could damage faster. I have MacBook Pro 2017 that always shutdown few times daily after 1 year battery heatlh was 70 %.

1. Would you power it using adapter or battery ?

2. If power it with adapter and before you go to sleep, do you shutdown or make it sleep ?

3. If you choose sleep does the adapter still on ?

Thank

My kids are using my old 2012 rMBP for 12+ hours a day, I'd say most computers can and do work for hours on end.

I never heard that - turning off a product damages the battery??

1. I keep my laptop plugged in if possible, and if not then its on the battery.
2. I'm assuming you are using the word adapter to mean the power supply. I do both, if I'm done and its near the plug, I'll plug it in, otherwise not. If its on the battery, I'll shut it down to preserve the battery. If its on the mains then I'll just leave it on, no sleep or shutdown
3. Yes, why have it slowly drain for no good reason

If you don’t wanna use up battery cycles, keep it plugged in maybe 60-70% of the time, but remember to use the battery up every 1-2 weeks at the very least.

Shutting down often has no detrimental effect on battery life.

I've used this macBook Pro 13" for over 6 years now, always plugged in, almost every day 6+ hours, almost never "using it up". I usually unplug it after work. You shouldn't worry about any normal usage scenario (lots of hours, plugged in or not, ...). If the computer breaks in any of those, it's defective and you should be able to trade it in.

Leave it "on the charger", but NOT all the time.

Every 2nd or 3rd day, take it OFF the charger and let the battery go to about 30-40%, then plug the charger back in.

I would also power it down at night, and reboot the next morning.

I'm using my new 16" in clamshell mode Monday to Friday, so it is always connected to the plug. During the weekend, I use it as a laptop and only charge it when it goes below 40%
I've used my old 15" in a similar way and its battery life is still good after 3 years.
