Hey all -

I use iMovie mostly to make videos for my youtube channel. I'm looking to get a MacBook Pro for personal use as I've been using a work laptop and want to separate personal and work data. What MacBook Pro would you recommend for video production on a budget?

I prefer the 13"...

You don’t mention what your budget is.

2015 - cheap, reliable, nimble, good combination of ports.
2018 - first 13” quad core. Substantial performance jump.

1500
Or less would be good. But just looking for the cheapest option. Does core i7 make a huge difference for
Video or moreso the ram?

I would go for RAM.

And for $1500 US$(?) you could get a 2015 with 16GB and at least 256 SSD, along with a decent sized external SSD or perhaps even NAS.

Take the 1,500, and look at the Apple Refurbished iMacs (NOT at MacBooks).

Even an entry-level 27" iMac will serve you better.
Pay $100 extra for a 256gb SSD.
Add more storage via USB3.
