Lately, my MacBook Pro (late 2008) has frozen up a quite regularly, sometimes as often as three times a day, but sometimes it works well for weeks. I've kept a list of apps that were running when the freezes occur, but there's nothing special; it does appear to happen more often when the machine is working hard, but it also happens with just my basic apps running (Mail, iCal, Safari, Things, Adium, Skype and every now and then iTunes), even when I'm not actively doing anything on it. Also, it seems that the fans have become more active but that could be subjective. So, I have the following questions:
- What might be the cause of system freezes?
- What can be done about it?
- How can I get my MBP to run cooler & quieter?
