Macbook Pro freezes when unplugged from power source

I recently bought a 13" Macbook Pro (a week before the retina version came out, just a few months ago) and this problem came up recently to which google had no answer. When I unplug my macbook from the power source, it will freeze for a few seconds. It is a minor inconvenience right now, but I am worried that it could signal a larger problem. Any ideas or fixes?
