i have a new macbook pro only a week old and it keeps freezing when i use firefox or watch a movie using VLC player. is there any reason why it keeps freezing.

Macbook Pro
2.66 GHz
4GB memory
320 gig HD

I have the same problem. I have narrowed it down to the Hard Drive shutting down for 10s for some reason or another. The whole system freezes and i cant do squat until the Hard Drive comes back on.

I dont know if ts a faulty HD or a controller or...

Cheers

do u use COOL IRIS? in mozilla?? if yes then take it off i had the issue , when i had cooliris intalled and my book will just free or slowdown like a snail. i had to powershut down.

I used Migration assistant from my old PB G4 (Tiger OS) to my new MBP (Leopard) and had 1,000,000 problems. It came down to old software messing up finder causing many many problems such as freezing HD.

I zeroed my hard-drive, re-installed OS Leopard and installed all apps manually, collected music and photo files manually, and set up mail, bookmarks, address book manually.

Now my mac is back running intact, faster than fast with no problem to last. :)
