Hey MR, I was just doing some clean up on my newish MacBook Pro. I picked it in April from the Apple Refurb store and it's specs are listed below in my signature. I cleaned up a ton of files and then checked my available storage. To my surprise it said 694GB. I thought it was a typo or I got the information of my external drive. I've double and triple checked the information on my computer and my order details. I definitely bought a 512 and I definitely appear to have a 1TB drive on here. It came straight from apple so I have little reason to think I got scammed but is there an easy to way to know for sure if so should I do anything or just count my blessings that I got a major upgrade for free?

Yes, count your blessings. I got a 2015 mid year MBP and when I ordered it, it stated it was 2.2 Ghz. WhenI got the first shipping invoice with serial #, I searched on one of the websites that would give the stats and it said It was a 2.8.
When I picked it up at the Apple store, the label did say 2.2, so I thought at least I got what I paid for.
Booting it up, and going into the specs, it was indeed a 2.8, which was a $200 difference on their website.
So Apple, depending on inventory at any given moment, will when out of stock after they have confirmed your order, will ship you up the next best thing.
This was my first refurb and probably won't be the last. The unit I got was flawless. Many times refurbs occur not because of defect, but a return that for some reason someone just didn't care for (they can't resell as new) or there was something else missing or wrong in the box. Apple still then 'tweaks' the unit to top standards during QC.
Enjoy!

It's certainly possible. To check, go to Apple menu > About This Mac > System Report... > Hardware - Storage and see what it says next to Physical Drive - Device Name. The 512GB SSDs are something along the lines of "APPLE SSD SM0512L", while the 1TB SSDs are "APPLE SSD SM1024L".

Did you buy it refurbished? I’ve heard stories from so folks on here getting better than expected refurbished MacBook pros. On a side note how exactly do you “clean”your hard drive?

I was deleting a bunch of old files, movies, tv shows, etc. Things I don't need. I like to see the before and after of this work but last night I forgot to check the before picture so I just saw what was left and was pretty shocked.

Agreed. Many people here in this forum have returned an otherwise flawless computer because of a tiny speck no one could see but them.
