So I have a 2009 Macbook Pro. The machine is still running great and the battery has been pretty terrific for the last four years, but this week a little sign popped up saying "service battery".

It has had 700 charge cycles and the health is 78%, so it's not as if I've stressed the battery too much. The capacity has definitely dropped so I'm assuming the battery has somehow failed. Has anybody else experienced this and did they find a fix?

Thanks.

Do check the power menu under system profiles to see what it says of your battery. If you have access to a good battery that fits yours system along with the know how of how to swap the battery then try that or else give apple care a visit. First do try a smc reset along with a pram and see if that helps.
If that does not help then the battery or logic board maybe at fault.
