Macbook Pro HDD and heat

Hi i am thinking of ordering(actually on the site now) a MacBook Pro 2.66GHz model with the upgrade from 320GB @5400 to 320GB @7200 rpm. I have however been told from my friends that heat is going to be a really big issue for me and that it will deplete the lifetime of the HDD.I was just wondering if any of this true so that i can change if back to the base config. I need my laptop to last me at least 2-3 years as i will be heading to University after the summer break later this year.

I run a 7200 in my macbook pro, which is an early 08 model.

I notice less battery life, but overall, not a lot more heat unless i'm taxing the drive.
