Hi, This is my first time posting anything on this website but i've come here for all my other problems and it seems like we have a very active and intelligent community. Well let me explain my problem here to you folks. I have a (mid) 2009 Macbook Pro 15". I've have this recurring problem with my HDD since August early September of 2010. What happens is i randomly get the beachball that hangs for anywhere from 1-5minutes. sometimes on a bad day 20-30 minutes. On the usual 1-5 minute hangs i can deal with it. on the days i get the 20-30 minute ones i restart and my macbook wont start up again, it will be left on the apple logo with the spinning wheel. The means i need to do a clean install of Mac OSX. This happens at least once a month where i have to do a clean install. I don't put any personal stuf on my macbook because theirs no point. All i have is the applications, web browsers, one 3D game. That's it, now it really becomes a hassle when i really need my computer and have to deal with these random freezes. I've gone to the LOG under my utilities folder and it gives me an Kernel Disk02 I/O error. usuall when this happens my HDD make a noise almost like if it can retrive the data. I know my HDD is on it's way out sooner or later and to be honest i feel like it's happening more as of late.

Replacing HDD problems.
Here's my second problem I've gone too Best buy and have boughten 2 Western Digital 250GB HDD's with 5400 and 7200 RPM they both take about 5-12 hours to download the Mac OSX onto it and then when it does the software is extremely sluggish. SO i returned both and went on to a better one so i thought. So i told myself or rather say convinced myself to buy a Seagate 7200 RPM 450GB HDD Space Solid state Hard Drive. So i come back home bought that baby in and i start up the install. so finally when it's done checking for consistency it starts to calculate how long the install will take and it tells me 8-12 hours. Now I'm rather furious after spending 150 US dollars on something that takes that long to install. So i decide to be patient with this one until its done installing. Finally after i wake up the next morning it tells me that the instaled failed and the Hard Drive was corrupted. I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm rather comfortable with computers and opening them up and replacing parts. But i just dont know why all the HD's i've tried all take long to install the Mac OSX. NOW when i put in my old HD and do a reinstall it takes 45 minutes every single time and works great up until i start getting the I/O errors. I need help on why it takes so long to instal on a new HDD and why its so fast and my old HD thats dying.:eek:

Worst Case Scenario:

My Applecare protection plan is Out of warrant and would like to know how much it would cost for a diagnostic and a replacement of my HD. Same storage and everything. if possible.

Thank you to all who help me because i really need it.
Sincerely,Joey
