If i get the February 2011 MacBook Pro, will the thunderbolt port support HMDI out (with the thunderbolt-HDMI converter) video AND audio?

I'm typing this on a 23" HP LCD attached to my MBP using the Thunderbolt-HDMI Convertor right now. Audio and video work great!!

You can't buy a HDMI cord like that. It isn't licensed by the corporation that owns HDMI so you can't obtain one legally.

I believe now you can go to the Apple store and get one of the remaining few but after that it isn't licensed and will be illegal.

Do you not read the front page? HDMI who owns the technology and trademark say that it isn't a true HDMI cable.

That's all fine and dandy, but that wasn't what we were talking about. I'm using the MiniDisplay port to HDMI adapter with a HDMI cable - not an HDMI to MDP cable. From that same article...

"Instead, users can buy Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Female dongles. These dongles, when combined with a standard HDMI-HDMI cable, connect MacBook Pros, and other devices with mDP ports, to high-definition televisions and desktop monitors that accept HDMI. "

I'm hearing the words "dongle", "female" and "connect". Now I'm interested. ;)

What he said.

Even the 2010 MAcbook pros support both audio and video out. Although it is the MDP out. The thunderbolt port in the 2011 just acts as a MDP when a display is connected.

I have a 2010 MBP 15" and tried with my mini > hdmi the other night, could not get audio, and the option isnt there like it is with my 13" 2011 MBP. Boo, too bad there isnt a driver or somthing that can fix it.

That's weird, my mid-2010(7,1) 13" has no problem playing audio through my MDP>HDMI adapter. It's a Moshi, not that it really matters what brand it is.
