I heard that the late 2008 (newest) macbook has a headphone jack similar to that of the iPhone. In short, i heard that you could plug your iPhone headset in and it would send the sound to the headphones but it would also allow the microphone to work while plugged into that same jack. I know that the macbook pro has a line in and a line out but i am wondering if i had heard correctly that the line out actually supports line in aswell.

Am i crazy? I can't find anything on this so i might be wrong. If i am wrong then is there some kind of splitter. Just curious really. Thanks.

No, it actually does support the line in on the iPhone's headset. I've used it several times -- the microphone, clicker (controls iTunes) and audio all work.

Thanks for clearing that up. So i am not crazy. I'll be happy when i have my new 15" macbook pro in 10 days.

Does anyone know if the apple in-ear headphones work on the Late 2008 MBP?

Yes they do. Found out by accident that controls work too. Volume up, down, pause, next, and back all work flawlessly!

is it possible to make an adapter that lets you plug in any mic and headphones into that port?
