Macbook Pro Help needed ASAP!

I have recently been having a lot of trouble with my macbook pro crashing every ten or so minuets, and after resetting my pram did nothing I decided to do an archive and install. I got all through this but now when I restart my Mac it comes up with a message saying "You cannot install Mac OS X on this volume.
The target does not have enough free space for the install".

The problem is I cannot find away of getting to the hard rive in order to make this free space, so need all you out there to tell how!

please help with anything you can, as i need this laptop running normal again today in order to continue with college work!

at the top of the installer go to utilites, then click disk utility



you need to erase or re partition the disk... or use firewire to another mac to boot and save your files first

i went to my local mac store and they said ive most likley lost everything and want to take it in, i wanderd if there was anyway i could retrieve the things ive lost before i give them my laptop without forking out 1000 pounds.
