My friend 6 year old windows laptop finally died and he has $750 to spend on a new laptop
He's thinking of getting an older MacBook pro model which MacBook could he possible get In his price range or should I just tell him he needs to be a man and tough it out with windows 8

You could sell him the late-2012 13" rMBP that you got the other day :D

On a more serious note, if his usage is just web browsing and general productivity work (iWork and all), even a MacBook Air would suit him just fine.

Have him look at the refurb store.

Lol I was actually going to sell it to him but I traded it for a MacBook air that way I don't have to bring the retina out of my dorm room to be stolen or dropped in class
