Hi there,
After putting my phone down hard on my Macbook's left corner, to the left of the trackpad, it switches to sleep mode - this has happened to 2 macbooks that I have had, both mid2009 13" models.
Any hard vibration on that spot turns off the screen and keyboard lights
Does this happen to anyone?

Maybe you're triggering the motion sensor. I know there is a motion sensor to prevent damage in the case of sudden movements.

I can do that (and it happens) when I am watching a film and I pick up the laptop to go to bed: I hear a click, and the film stops momentarily.

It doesn't switch off the screen or the keyboard lights though..
